Reports from BlackBerry indicate that within 24 hours of the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone users worldwide the Blackberry messenger app has got over 10 million downloads.
according to BlackBerry head of BBM operations Andrew Bocking from their official blog “BBM is looking great on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry, and the team here is very excited about the success of this launch.” In not less than a day, BlackBerry Messenger has topped the Apple Store rankings in the top spot for free downloads in more than 75 countries worldwide.
last September, BlackBerry released an earlier version of the BBM app for Android which leaked online before the launch, however made the company to pause the roll-out for both Google android and iPhone users.
BlackBerry Messenger BBM has been a strong feature for Blackberry users as it allows people to communicate in real-time text messages which is housed on a secure server, which makes the App a better security instant messaging platform.
With the launch it faces tough competition with WhatsApp which has gained popularity over the few years in various countries around the world, BBM has a higher level of trust between users, as it provides good perception of security over its competitors as it make use of PIN instead of mobile phone numbers, with these you have total control over who can contact you.
BlackBerry also said that it will be turning the BBM App into a revenue generating program for the company by introduction of adverts.
