Nokia to discontinue support for MeeGo and Symbian January 1

For many users of the Nokia smartphones that had migrated to Android mobile phones may have forget about the Old symbian phones, as they were once the leader in the mobile world, but with recent news of a Microsoft takeover of Nokia, and other stories around the tech word it should not be a surprise as from next year January 1, 2014, Nokia mobile will be discontinuing support for Symbian and MeeGo applications. MeeGo was the mobile OS designed to replace symbian in Nokia phones.

Gone are the days when Symbian used to be the world’s number one Mobile OS as it was strong and responsive to users needs. When MeeGo was launched it gained popularity fast among Symbian users but Nokia dropped the new OS for Windows Mobile after series of new terms with the coming of new CEO arrived.

While the discountinued support for both Symbian and MeeGo users, mobile apps already in Nokia Store will still be available for download by users. Mobile app. Developers will still get paid when their existing apps in the store are purchased. but their will no longer addition of new apps or update of existing ones in the Store from January 1 2014.
