Google has just announced that it is suspending transactions with Huawei, which was expected as the US government has blacklisted Huaweia and other Chinese technology companies.
In their words:
“We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications.”
The question now, is what is the fate of Huawei Android Phone?
Android is an open-source operating system, Huawei can actually use updates to the public release of the OS to continue development of its smartphones, but they won’t be able to have access to Google core apps like the Google Play Store, Mail, Maps, etc, in upcoming Android smartphones, and will also be unable to provide Android OS updates to existing phones.
However, according to this tweet:
For Huawei users’ questions regarding our steps to comply w/ the recent US government actions: We assure you while we are complying with all US gov’t requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device.

What that simply means is that your current Huawei phones won’t be immediately impacted by the decision.
- From all, existing Huawei smartphones will not be able to receive any future Android OS updates.
- Huawei can only access the open-source version of Android and will lose access to proprietary apps and services from Google.
- The services and applications which will be limited by the implementation of this suspension are still being discussed within Google
- Access to popular apps like YouTube, Gmail, Chrome are off for owners of Huawei products.
